School As We Know It Was Designed In 1893,

Lake Travis Christian Academy: An Acton Academy was born different. Acton is one of the newest and most innovative school designs in the world. Each Acton school was founded by parents who believe there is a better way to educate their children and help other like-minded families in their community.

What Makes Lake Travis Christian Academy Different From other Schools?

  • Lake Travis Christian Academy uses the latest technology in a self-paced learning environment that is designed to foster Ethics, ResponsibilityGoal-Setting, and Teamwork. Learners are empowered to thrive in a world that needs independent, motivated thinkers and learners.

  • Learning by Doing: We have hands-on projects to master the tools and skills necessary to solve problems in the real world. Whether it’s launching a business, playing a musical instrument, or programming a robot, LTCA students are building real-life skills every day.

  • Teachers (Guides) use the Socratic method, always responding to students’ questions with new questions. This exchange hones students’ critical thinking skills.

  • LT Christian Academy is “student-led.” Students take ownership of their education and peer relationships.

  • We encourage our Heroes to develop personal virtues such as honesty, hard work, responsibility, kindness and empathy. Armed with purpose and good character, we believe our students will launch into adulthood prepared to find their calling and change the world!

What we Focus On:

Faith: Founded in the love of Christ and built on a foundation of biblical ethics

Relationships: Family atmosphere where promises and contracts support accountability, the safety to fail, and relational development

Respect: For self and others. We believe in discovery and Socratic investigation with an open mind

Discovery: Of God-given gifts and of a calling along with the dedication to develop real talent with character.

+ IS Lake Travis Christian Academy A MONTESSORI SCHOOL?

+ HOW LONG IS Lake Travis Christian Academy IN SESSION EACH YEAR?

  • We operate on an 11 month calendar, but our flexible program allows families to travel together during the year, without sacrificing education. Each session is 6-7 weeks with 1 week off in-between. We also take the majority of LTISD holidays.

+ WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY A HERO'S JOURNEY?

  • We believe that every person has a special calling in life, which must be identified and lived out with integrity and purpose, in order to live a satisfying and fulfilled life. Our mission is to prepare your child for his or her special journey by helping them discover their God-given talents.

+ IS Lake Travis Christian Academy A RELIGIOUS SCHOOL?

  • Lake Travis Christian Academy is a Christian organization. The staff have all signed a statement of faith, but families do not have to be Christian to be a part of the community. We expose children to the importance of mindfulness, ethical principles, and the significance of religion in history and the development of society, and we value and respect each individual's beliefs.
  • We welcome Heroes and families from ALL backgrounds.

+ Is Lake Travis Christian Academy accredited?

  • Yes the school is accredited through the International Association of Learner Driven Schools.

+ How do you use technology in the classroom without students having too much screen time?

  • At Lake Travis Christian Academy, we believe in the power of balance. Using the incredible, self-paced eLearning tools now available, we are able to provide the rigor needed for learning math, vocabulary, spelling and grammar in about 90 minutes each day, while freeing up the rest of the day for engaging, project-based learning. The two are highly complementary.

+ Is Lake Travis Christian Academy Right for my child?

LTCA is the right place for your child if they…

  • Wish traditional school was more challenging and engaging.
  • Enjoy doing projects around their interests with just a few dozen young people.
  • Build, create, innovate, or make art.
  • See things differently.
  • Care about their future, want to find a calling, and want to change the world.
  • Are kind, hardworking, and committed to doing their best.

+ What does tuition cost and do you offer finacial aid?

  • Tuition for each learner is $1,100/month for 10 months and a $1,000 Enrollment Fee. We offer tuition reduction for qualifying families. We work with each family once the application/interview is complete and find a solution that works for everyone. It is an open discussion where you would go over your budget with your family and then we would discuss the options for what will work best. Our goal is to make this type of learning environment available to all families from all backgrounds that believe LTCA is a good fit and that we believe are a good fit for this learning environment/community.

+ Will the students be grouped into grades?

  • We believe that students learn best when working with learners younger and older than themselves rather than split up into groups based solely on age. In addition to individualized curriculum, all ages of students work together in groups.

+ Without homework and frequent test taking, how do i know my child is learning?

  • Students celebrate the mastery of tools, skills, and character by earning badges, assembling portfolios, and taking part in public exhibitions. Public exhibitions allow students to present work to experts, customers, or the public for a real-world test. Parents use our online platform JourneyTracker and school app (with permission from their learner) to monitor progress in Core Skills like reading, writing, math, and character development. Electronic and hard copy Portfolios capture rough drafts, photos, videos, and other creative work.

+ What is an “independent learner”?

  • Someone who can research questions, follow instructions, solve problems—admit that they don’t know something and figure out a solution when they hit a roadblock without asking an adult for help — participate in discussions, and strive for mastery.

+ WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY "EVERY CHILD CAN CHANGE THE WORLD"?

  • We believe each of our students will find a passion — something they love and have a God given talent to do. They will use this gift to serve others and fulfill a need they are passionate about in the world. This may be by becoming a shoe-shiner who tells stories and makes people's day just by doing his job with love and vigor; it may be by becoming a coach who sees the light in a child’s eyes and guides her to pursue a dream; it may be by becoming a father or mother who leads a family on a Hero's Journey; it may be becoming an entrepreneur or business leader guided by compassion and integrity; or it may be by becoming an artist or writer who brings beauty to people's lives.
